Fictional Characters Featured in the Ayni Chapter Dialogues

Juliana
Cuzco
Juliana is a social worker in her 20s with connections to the Casa del Cargador (CdC) and the Yanapanakusun Center (CAITH, Centro de Atención Integral para las Trabajadoras del Hogar). She is originally from Santo Tomás, Chumbivilcas, Peru, a rural region, and is engaged to Fermín.

Fermín
Cuzco
Fermín is also in his 20s, and works at a travel agency. He is knowledgeable about local archaeological sites, has family in rural Taquile, Puno, and is originally from Ccorca, Peru, a rural district in the province of Cuzco. He met Jonathan when Jonathan toured Cuzco and they stayed connected through social media.

Jonathan
Andahuaylas
Jonathan is from Andahuaylas, Peru, and is in his late 20s. He is a new professor at the Universidad José María Arguedas in Peru and teaches on the topics of business, food sustainability and food independence in the Andes, after receiving a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He is a heritage speaker of Quechua raised in an urban setting.

Victor
Ayacucho
Víctor is from Ayacucho, Peru, and is in his 60s. He comes from a rural background, from outside Cora Cora, in the Parinacochas province of Peru. He met Jonathan while working on one of his fieldwork projects and served as a community liaison. He has knowledge of local festivities and celebrations, including music.

K'ancha
Bolivia
K’ancha is from the town of Cliza, Bolivia. She is in her 20s and works at a women’s organization with a free health clinic. She had met Juliana, who is also a social worker, at a professional event.

Edith
Bolivia
Edith is from Tarata, Bolivia, and is in her 60s. She has worked as a schoolteacher, midwife, and weaver and has knowledge of indigenous medicine; as a child, she learned the ways of traditional healing. Edith had volunteered at the clinic where K’ancha works and had trained her on topics of reproductive health. She was invited by K’ancha to participate as a member of the Ayni team.

Joseph
USA
Joseph is a pre-med student at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania, USA. He grew up in Arlington, VA, and has family in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He needs to complete a service-learning project for his program in order to earn Global/Cultural credits. He likes to sing and loves Andean indigenous music. Edith is his godmother and he is interested in working at the free health clinic with K’ancha.
